How To Keep Sane During The Season of A Pandemic

Pandemic

It’s crazy how things escalated so quickly with the coronavirus pandemic and all it entails.

Everything is really getting out of hand with schools shutting down, workers having to work remotely, places of worship either turning to online services or worshipping in small groups, concerts and season play offs either being rescheduled or totally cancelled.

The economy is also declining due to the fall in the stock market.

…And wearing a mask is now the new sexy.

Who would have thought that the world could go on a rampage so fast! I mean the whole world!

I am not here to downplay what is going on in the world right now with the coronavirus but how do you keep yourself sane and how do you self care during this dangerous- to – human -mind- season?

There’s so much going on that you can’t afford to get carried away and then lose yourself in the process.

How do you deal with all the chaos going on around right now?

These are 8 things you can do to keep sane during this season.

How To Keep Sane During A Global Pandemic

1. Stop the hysteria

Fear means chaos. Fear means darkness, fear means sickness, fear means uncertainty about the now or the future and that could bring in anxiety. You need to be calm in yourself, so you can think.

2. Listen up for information

Get the needed information on how to go ahead with your work schedule, children’s forced homeschooling (k12 online schools for the win!) or whatever it is that’s important to you.

Everyone is affected by this pandemic. If you have to call in to work for being absent, no one should see you as being irresponsible… well except you had made it a habit to always call into work when its absolutely unnecessary.

It’s the times we are in, you would -or should be forgiven.

3. Don’t be glued to the news or media, 24 hours a day

Fixing and expending your energy on what you can’t control won’t do you any good.

Take the precautions that has been set aside by the Center For Disease Control And Prevention (CDC) and your State Government to keep yourself aware of what’s going on and stay informed with relevant information. Not to throw caution to the wind, but don’t be so immersed in the news that you become so paralyzed that you can’t function.

Take a break.

4. Keep busy and be productive

Use this time to your advantage.

The truth is, things are not normal right now, at least not with the way things are going currently. Normal times will return, sooner or later.

But right now, any excuse is an excuse. You know, because – social distancing.

So, leverage the time you have in your hands now.

5. Check on your friends and family

In the course of isolating yourself and social distancing, don’t neglect your family members especially your extended family. FaceTime, WhatsApp or video calls could come in handy.

This is to show love and empathy and give encouragement to them that they are not alone and everyone is in this together.

This is also a good time to use the Facebook poke button. Poke your friends and colleagues to say hi! #facebookpokerchallenge 🙂

6. Stock up

But not from panic buying. If you feel a need to stock up your pantry with food items and your immediate needs, go ahead and do so.

7. Separate information from facts

Anything can be information but seek the facts. Educate yourself and filter through any information you get. Embrace what benefits you and take whatever is left with a pinch of salt.

8. Pray and focus on God

This is the ultimate point. If you believe in the power of prayer, this is the time to pray and hold on to your faith. This is also the time to rise up, stand up for what you believe in and help others get through it.

The darker the times, the brighter the light. Be a light, keep shining the light and brighten the corner where you are.
