Sleep

1. Relax

Relax your body and muscles. You could get a good massage or back rubs before you sleep. You could use a body massager for this or your significant other’s handy dandy old hands.

2. Clear your mind of negativity

Your mind is a power engine and good sleep fuels it for energy. However, when your mind is full of negativity, it would be difficult to tap into that energy through a peaceful night rest.

It’s good to de-clutter your room but you should also de-clutter your mind as well. You don’t want your mind racing and processing toxic things as you doze off.

Purge your mind of stressful thoughts or that emotional pain from your last break up.

Take stock on the activities of the day and think about ways to do better the next day. Remember you want to kick ass on that next project at work.

Also, sort out any unfinished thought process you had lingering in your mind during or throughout the day. The goal here is to wake up with a clear mind with fresh thoughts – and that’s exactly what we are going for.

3. Rest to wake up and not feel tired

Let your mind be at rest.

Let go of your worries and and be at peace with yourself so when you toss and turn as you sleep, you aren’t anxious or scared about anything you have to do or who you have to meet up with the next day or the day after.

4. Lay your bed

No brainer right? As you lay your bed, you shall lie on it. Lay your bed to avoid nightmares.

To keep your bed neat most of the time, fitted sheets are really good options. Arrange your pillows. Lay your blankets or duvets. For a nice and comfy night rest, you could find pretty good, breathable fitted sheets and beddings of your choice here .

I noticed I feel more tired any day I wake up because I was too tired to lay my bed before I laid my head. But each time I lay my bed, which I now do consistently, I wake up feeling refreshed which leads to more productivity during the day.

5. Take a warm bath or hot shower

If you own a jacuzzi or a tub, even better. Let your body soak up all the warmth and enjoy the coolness once you are out of the shower.

You can hop to bed once you are done giving yourself a hot shower pampering.

6. Go to bed early

Early to bed, early to rise as they say. It not only makes a man healthy and wise but it also makes him not feel tired.

Tired

7. Don’t sleep in your day clothes

You might feel you are too tired to change into your night wear or pajamas before going to bed.

Trust me, it makes you more tired and weighed down when you wake up.

Change into something light and comfortable. Something sexy if you will. Your spouse will thank you for it and you would also not only feel good but well complimented as well. It’s a win-win!

8. Read a book

It could be a few lines in your favorite just to set your eyes to sleep. As an adult, hopefully you still don’t listen to bed time stories.

This could be you reading a “bed time story” to yourself by skimming through the first page or two of your favorite book .You could also read your bible. Somebody say…W-O-R-D!!! (drag it slowly) that’s better. 🙂

9. Eat light

Don’t eat heavy foods if you want to wake up not feeling tired. Don’t eat and then go immediately to bed either. That would make you feel bloated.

You could have a cut off time you eat. May be like 6 pm, so you give your food enough time to digest with a little bit of movement and physical activity. If at all you feel you need to eat and it’s late, you could eat a very light snack instead.

10. Pray

Say your night prayers and commit yourself to the one who can give you true rest. It gives you calmness and the peace of mind you need to be well rested.

11. Eliminate any form of noise or distractions

You want to ensure you get some peace and quiet for a peaceful night rest. Turn off the T.V, radio or any other thing that could be a source of distraction for you or noise to you.

Your alarm clock shouldn’t be going off intermittently either and also don’t forget to dim your lights or turn them off completely.

12. Sleep in a good position

Your neck positioning particularly, is key.

Babies and toddlers may be able to get away with sleeping in an awkward position but as an adult, you don’t want to overlook this or throw caution to the wind.

Not placing your neck in its proper position, would lead to neck pains in the morning. You also need to make sure you have a comfortable bed that will relax and soothe your body so when you wake up in the morning, you won’t feel tired.

You could check here for very good bed mattresses that could help you with just that. With a good mattress, you aren’t just getting comfort for your body, you are getting excellent sleep- which is exactly what you need.

I have my own little secret which I stumbled upon many years ago and has worked for me (If you have ever had a neck pain or you know someone who usually does, you might need to book mark this page for this special secret).

My secret recipe for neck pain:

If you find yourself with a neck pain when you wake up, before you turn your head or get out of bed at all, go back to bed immediately (and put your head on your soft but firm pillow). Try sleeping on the exact spot of your neck where you feel the pain for like 10 minutes, it resets your neck and puts things back in place. I am not a doctor, my Masters Degree is in Law and it may not make any sense to you, but it works!

Thank me later. 🙂

You can find a firm pillow here if you don’t already have one or the one you have, is due for a change.

13. Sleep

Actually sleep. Don’t be distracted by your phone. Make sure you get your daily dose of 6-8 hours of a good night sleep.

Cuddle up with your teddy, significant other, blanket or wrap your arms around you and simply sleep.
